Feb 12, 2018 - A Complete Guide to Kito Lever Hoists & Their Unparalleled Advantages

Kito’s line of lever hoists have been known to deliver unparalleled performance in various load handling applications, made possible by their excellent weight to lift ratio and durability. Designed as portable devices for manually lifting, lowering, pulling or tensioning a load, lever hoists have the advantage of being able to lift in most positions, even horizontally, in contrast with chain hoists that can only be used vertically.

How does a lever hoist work?

A lever hoist is typically fashioned with a handle or lever attached to a block which houses an internal gear system and ratchet. Completing this mechanism is either a load chain that travels over the internal gear, or a wire rope that runs through a pulley. A hook on the end of the chain or cable allows for easy attachment of loads, as well as another hook attached to the housing of the lever block to a secure support structure, such as a steel beam.

After attaching the load, the lever hoist can then be cranked up and down to power the ratchet and pawl system, resulting in the movement of the load according to a set distance per crank. The internal gear can also be set to move the load towards a certain direction, either up or down as required by the operation.

Discover the uses of Kito lever hoists, as well as the benefits they provide to the applications they’re used in:

Lifting, Pulling, and Tensioning

Kito lever hoists are certified for use as lifting devices according to a specific working load limit. To achieve this, the total weight of the load to be lifted must not exceed the working load limit. This limit is available on the side of the hoist, and spans 250 kg to 10 tons.

Aside from lifting loads, lever hoists are also used in applications wherein heavy loads need to be pulled or tensioned. With their use, loads can also be stretched or positioned horizontally, which allows for improved precision during transport.

Commercial and Industrial Applications

Commonly used in both in-plant and outdoor settings, Kito lever hoists have proven reliable in various industries and applications including:

  • Construction

  • Utilities - including power lines

  • Forestry

  • Lumber

  • Railroad

  • Mining

Kito lever hoists are also used by general consumers at home and on farms, as well as in pipe laying and automotive garage applications. Overall, these hoists are used to hold loads together, install fences, open railroad car doors, pull pipes, stretch wires, straighten poles, and position machinery.

Clear Advantages of Kito Lever Hoists

Lightweight Appearance, Durable Performance

Typically smaller and more lightweight than their electrically or pneumatically powered counterparts, lever hoists are strong and durable enough to withstand demanding applications even under extreme temperatures. This is achieved through a high-frequency heating process that makes Kito lever hoists durable and highly-capable even under extreme operating conditions.

Safe and Seamless Workflow

Despite being tough on the job, Kito lever hoists are nowhere near tough and dangerous to operate for those actually using them. In fact, these hoists are rated for their safety, featuring an integrated slip clutch that is designed to help prevent injuries to workers, and damages in the work environment. Plus, the slip and clutch engagement prevents erratic motion and keeps loads secure, ensuring the safe and smooth transport of loads.
