Mar 21, 2018 - Reliable Function through Heavy-duty Lifting with Thern Davit Cranes

Every heavy-duty and large scale industrial application relies on professional-grade equipment for reliable performance and high-volume function, especially when it comes to load handling. Choosing the right equipment for lifting and positioning loads requires not only a large capacity, but also the ability to provide custom options for specialized applications.

Built with an angled beam that pivots over a vertical axis, Thern davit cranes are a trusted option when it comes to heavy-duty load handling. With a complete line of both standard and custom cranes and winches for countless large-scale, global applications, davit cranes from Thern provide reliable performance and function.

Standard Cranes

Thern’s standard davit cranes come in 3 types: portable, stationary, and aluminum:

Portable

This series of davit cranes provide various ergonomic benefits compared to traditional lift trucks. Typically used in outdoor applications, portable davit cranes are galvanised to avoid corrosion, with rotating arms to complete applications.

Ranging from 500 lbs to 2000 lbs capacity and maximum lifting heights from 65 ft to 435 ft, Thern davit cranes provide reliable function in any load handling applications. These come in series, with various modifications for specific operational requirements, such as a spur gear hand winch in the First Mate and lighter Ensign series for relatively lighter applications, an electric winch for the mid-level Ensign, a worm gear hand winch for the lighter Commander series, and an electric winch for its heavy-duty counterpart.

Stationary

Stationary davit cranes are engineered to provide stability during transport of larger loads across longer distances. Owing to their stationary nature, these cranes are permanently installed on solid foundations for long-term and high-volume use.

With capacities ranging from 1500 lbs to 3000 lbs and lifting heights from 280 ft to 475 ft, stationary davit cranes mounted on gusset style bases prove to be reliable and stable across a wide range of load handling requirements. The base Captain series is equipped with a spur gear hand winch, while its upper-tier counterpart operates with an electric winch; the Admiral series features a screw-jack and an upgraded spur gear hand winch.

Aluminum

Designed for the toughest applications and heaviest load handling requirements, aluminum davit cranes from Thern can lift up to 5 tons. Powered by the Porta-Gantry system, this is the first lifting technology that has a capacity to lift up to 5 tons. Despite their heavy-duty function, these cranes are designed to make transport, assembly, and use easy.

Davit vs. Jib Cranes

In contrast to jib cranes, Thern davit cranes require less labor and materials during installation. Aside from being less labor- and material-intensive, the reduced need for concrete during installation also provides additional cost savings.

Installations

Typically, Thern davit cranes revolve around anchoring the base to the existing industrial floor using 4 anchor bolts, and additional bases can be installed in multiple locations for portable use. Alternatively, davit cranes can also follow jib installations, wherein a new concrete footing is required.

In contrast with costly mobile crane rentals, davit cranes can be installed on rooftops. This makes lifting tools and maintaining equipment more economical and stable. Additionally, using davit cranes in construction sites is an alternative to onsite, oversized cranes; davit cranes provide convenient use and cost savings compared to their counterpart. Lastly, grain elevator applications can also benefit from the use of davit cranes. When mounted on top of elevators, electric or hand-operated davit cranes are safer, easier to use, and are more economical for lifting tools and equipment than makeshift methods.

Does your construction or industrial site require a stable and high-performance lifting solution? Thern davit cranes are easy to install and operate, and adequately service a wide range of load handling applications. Browse our selection of davit cranes today.
