History

Founded in the Late 1920's

Founded by Gordon Nelson Russell the formative years saw the majority of business in the underground coal mines of British Columbia's Kootenay region.

Gordon Russell's operations germinated alongside the growth of British Columbia's forestry & mining industries beginning in the 1950's and continuing throughout the late 1970's.

Gordon Nelson Russell's two sons, Charles and John were instrumental in guiding the companies prosperity through these exciting times.

Rising to the Challenge

British Columbia's surging Mining and Forestry sectors had a rising niche demand. Gordon Russell was quick to meet the challenge of the surging markets with the introduction of David Brown Radicon speed reducers and Galigher Pumps (now a division of WEIR).

Though manufacturing partnerships with Radicon and Galigher were of vital importance in the success of the company during this time, Gordon Russell expanded its product offerings to offset and meet the needs of the industries demand, these products included such well known manufacturer's as Flexveyor, Horton Tanks, Sperry, W.S Rockwell, Sweco Separators, Victor, Hunslet, Fletcher, Brown Boveri, and Dings Magnetics .

Fast Track Forward

With industrial growth comes a demand for transportation, Canada's historic railway operations have been instrumental in the molding and shaping of our economy.

Gordon Russell saw a demand for fast and efficient switching capabilities in short line railways and production yards. This led to the introduction of the Trackmobile® Mobile Railcar Mover line of products in the 1960’s.

In the late 1970's a relationship began with the Airflex (Fawick) division of Eaton; one that has grown to play a key role in the companies success.

As Western Canada's Authorized Trackmobile® Distributor Gordon Russell expanded it's operations with the opening of its full service facility in Red Deer, Alberta in 2001. With the continuous growth of Canada's industry transportation via rail demand grew; because of this Gordon Russell is proud to announce the opening of our Prince George, British Columbia facility to best serve our customers.

Gordon Russell's partnership with trackmobile continues to be an integral part of our business today.

That Was Then, This Is Now

Expanding into the USA's Pacific Northwest in both Washington and Oregon, Gordon Russell prides itself on achieving not only continuous but stable growth.

Charles Russell's two sons Brian and Graham now own the business, with a wealth of knowledge and experience they are key leaders in the companies operations.

Respectful of company tradition and principals come and gone (Victor, Hunslet, Galigher, Horton, Brown Boveri), they and the staff at Gordon Russell look forward to the future and its challenges.
