Jul 12, 2018 - Thern Industrial Winches - Making Lifting and Pulling Loads Easier Than Ever!

It’s all about operational efficiency while being able to achieve production goals within preset timelines in most industrial settings. This is true especially for environments that include lifting or pulling of a large volume of heavy loads as a routine task. Thern winches can make essential equipment to be on hands in such applications, as they make it incredibly easy to pull any amount of load, especially in sites where an area is inaccessible by a moving equipment such as cranes.

The working mechanism of winches is similar to that of a pulley in general, however, its functionality is not confined to just pulling up/down a rope or cable. Based on the application you’re planning to use winches for, you’ll find an extended range of models in the marketplace. Each model may vary from the other in terms of operation type and load capacity, and the key to attain desired outcomes is to identify the right type of winches for your specific application.

Types of Thern Winches in Terms of Operation:

Air Winches

As the name itself suggests, these winches use air instead of electricity for its operation. An air compressor feeds air pressure to the motor drive through an air line. Once the winch is activated, the drive mechanism of the winch starts powering the cable drum and then lowering or raising the attached load.

Gordon Russell carries a range of Thern air winches including TA air winch, C-series and mini TA series. The big red TA series winches are rugged and designed to pull or lift loads up to 37,000 lbs. The radial piston motor ensures reliable service, whereas precise control valves enable the operator to have complete speed control. Both drum ends of this model are framed in sturdy welded steel, ensuring optimal strength every time.

For applications that require load lifting up to 10 Ton, Thern C-series winches are just the right pick. Made with strict adherence to DNV standards, this series features a neutral lock control valve, e-stop as standard, NORD-LOCK washers and dual direction wedge. All these features contribute to make C-Series winches more versatile, safer, lighter and faster than ever before.

If you need winches to lift or pull up to half or one ton, Thern mini TA series winches are just for you. Portable, compact and powerful, these winches give you the flexibility of both automatic and manual option.

Electric Winches

In this category, Gordon Russell carries Thern portable winches, 4WS and 4HS power winch and various other models specified to a range of load lifting requirements. When you need portability but cannot compromise on power, Thern portable winches are your best bet. Built from cast aluminum, this winch will output the right amount of power for your application.

In case you are looking for a winch that can deliver accurate positioning with secure load control, Thern 4WS model would prove a good choice as it features a combination of worm/helical and spur gearing. It comes with a modular design to enable customization, along with TEFC brake motor and flange style ball bearings.

For applications that require long travel distances, Thern 4HPF series power winches come with parallel/helical high-efficiency gearing. Some key features of this model are welded steel drum, ANSI compliance, wire rope assemblies, flange mounted motor, load holding motor disc brake, and solid steel drum shaft.

Thern 4HBP series winches can handle the load capacity ranging from 35,000 to 100,000 lb – making it ideal for heavy-duty applications. It features a continuous solid steel drum shaft, planetary gear drive, direct drive gear reducer, and wire rope assemblies. It is ANSI compliant and comes with a 2-year limited warranty.

Manual Winches

Sometimes referred to as hand winches, manual winches’ working mechanism includes lifting or pulling loads with a cable (or chain, strap and rope) wound around rotating drum which is operated via a hand crank. Thern spur gear hand winch is available in multiple configurations to suit different performance requirements of manual pulling and lowering applications. Able to lift up to 10,000 lb in capacity, this winch features adjustable handles to ensure effortless operation.

Thern worm gear hand winch lifts the loads slower compared to a spur gear, however, it takes less force. You can lift up to 4600 lb using this winch which is available in various performance ratings and configurations to keep items moving efficiently and safely. Other key features include cast aluminum construction, machine-cut worm gears, internal mechanical brake and enclosed oil bath.
