Worm & Helical-Worm Gear Reducers

Compact, quiet and cost-effective right-angle drives

Worm reducers suit lighter, intermittent or space-limited drives, and stainless and washdown versions handle food plants and wet areas. Helical-worm units add a helical input stage for higher efficiency and wider ratios, and double-enveloping worm gearing carries heavy and shock loads that would overwhelm a standard worm.

Series Available:

• Bonfiglioli VF / W Series: 13 to 7,100 Nm, ratios 7 to 100 (W Series 200 to 830 Nm); NEMA versions; combines with the 300 Series; ATEX.
• Radicon Series C: helical-worm gearmotors in sizes 03 to 10, up to 50 HP (45 kW) and 76,700 lb-in, ratios 8:1 to 250:1 (14,000:1 combined). Built in our shop as a Radicon build centre.
• Cone Drive Series B: aluminium or cast right-angle worm gear reducers with Conex worm gearing, center distances 1.33 to 3.54 in., ratios 5:1 to 3,600:1 (single or double reduction), output torque to 6,370 lb-in, IP55; horizontal or vertical base, output bracket or torque arm mounting, solid or hollow output; washdown and USDA-approved white epoxy options; two-year warranty; directly interchangeable with competitor reducers. Built in our shop as a Cone Drive build centre.
• Cone Drive double-enveloping worm gearboxes: an hourglass-shaped worm and gear put more teeth in contact, for higher torque, lower contact stress and greater shock capacity in a compact housing; the worm runs on two input bearings, so units mount in any position. Series HP: cast iron, center distances 1.5 to 28 in., ratios 5:1 to 343,000:1 (single, double or triple reduction), output torque to 2,900,000 lb-in, fan or water cooling. Series HP-A: metric universal housing, 100 to 200 mm centers, ratios 5:1 to 70:1, to 88,100 lb-in, optional drywell. Series RG: cast iron, 1.5 to 3.5 in. centers, ratios 5:1 to 600:1, to 10,800 lb-in, tapered roller output bearings for heavy overhung loads. Five-year warranty. Replacement double-enveloping gearsets (1.5 to 36 in. centers) can be made to fit your existing housing.
• Radicon heavy-duty worm: Series ER to 430 HP and 275,000 lb-in (a drop-in for legacy Radicon Series A), Series AM to 132 HP and 68,000 lb-in, Series AJ to 16 HP, and BS compact aluminum units with a washdown coating option.
• WorldWide Electric HDR, CALM and SSHDR: HDR cast iron (box sizes 133 to 325, 5:1 to 60:1, interchangeable with Boston 700 Series); CALM aluminum (sizes 30 to 90, 7.5:1 to 100:1, IEC or NEMA input); SSHDR 304 stainless, IP69K washdown with food-grade H1 oil.
• JIE worm gear units: JRWND NEMA worm reducers (sizes 30 to 150, 5:1 to 100:1, 0.08 to 20 hp), JRTS helical-worm gearmotors (0.16 to 30 hp) and JRES stainless steel worm gearmotors.

Shaft Mount Reducers

Mounted on the driven shaft, no couplings or alignment

Shaft-mount reducers hang directly on the driven shaft and are held by a torque arm, which removes couplings and alignment work. They are the workhorse of aggregate, mining and grain conveyors.

Series Available:

• Bonfiglioli TA Series: 150 to 16,000 Nm, ratios 5 to 33.2, up to 226 kW, backstop option; a proven unit for quarry and mine conveyors.
• Radicon Series J: offset shaft-mount units up to 512,000 lb-in (57,800 Nm), ratios 5, 15, 20 and 25:1, with a tapered bushing system and V-belt input.
• Radicon Series F: shaft-mounted helical gearmotors in sizes 02 to 10, up to 50 HP (45 kW) and 71,000 lb-in (8,000 Nm), ratios 6.3:1 to 360:1 (3,600:1 combined). Built in our shop as a Radicon build centre.
• WorldWide Electric SMR, SCSMR and HYSMR: SMR sizes 2 to 12, 15:1 and 25:1, bores 1-15/16 in. to 6-1/2 in., dimensionally interchangeable with Dodge TXT, three-year warranty; SCSMR screw conveyor version (replaces Dodge SCXT); HYSMR with SAE B hydraulic motor input.
• JIE JTA: shaft-mounted gear units, ratios 5 to 31.5, 15 to 61 hp.

Replacing a gearbox? Photos of the nameplate and the unit usually have everything we need. Otherwise, these details get you an accurate quote quickly:

• Make, model and serial number of the existing unit
• Motor horsepower (or kW) and input speed
• Ratio or required output speed, and output torque if known
• Configuration: inline, right-angle, parallel shaft or shaft mount
• Mounting (foot, flange, shaft mount or vertical) and mounting position
